Early Spring Days

A little quote I was reminded of to start this blog off :

"Always say what you mean, and mean what you say.

Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

Spring has arrived, and I'm embracing all the warmth and coziness that accompanies this time of year. It feels like I've shed the cocoon of another long winter and awakened anew.

It is so nice to see people walking, running, and enjoying sunny days with their loved ones and pets. I have been busy planting seedlings and eagerly preparing for my upcoming garden. Admittedly, I may have gone a bit overboard, but I believe it's better to overcompensate than to underprepare.

During my walks and runs, I've been captivated by the natural world around me. Part of my route follows along the river and past a community garden. As I observe nature, I often find myself contemplating how simply watching the seasons change could bring me immense happiness. Nature is incredibly profound and goes far beyond our everyday understanding. Truly seeing and appreciating its beauty is a gift.

I believe if more people understood nature in this way, they would hesitate before removing a tree or forest. It is something to think about.

My favourite illustrator Lore Pemberton's ( along with Tasha Tudor and Beatrix Potter ) 2024 calendar. Every page is filled with the most beautiful illustrations, and I cant wait to turn the page and see the next months print. There is something about her work that is so reminiscent to how I hope to live my day to day life, the illustrations are full of inspiration and bring me so much joy. This one especially reminds me of a perfect spring day.

Over the weekend I was able to visit my parents, who are a surrounded by a little more nature than I am in the city. I love the drive home, it feels like a breath of fresh air once I leave the busy streets of the city. The daffodils were blooming and the birds were singing, & Oliver was basking in the sun.

Visiting my parents also gives me the chance to see what my mom is working on at the moment. She always has something on the go, and right now its a very tiny pieced quilt. She is such an inspiration and I always feel my creative juices flowing after a day with her.

Sunday I had a full day to myself. This is the definition of luxury in my eyes. I was able to to do everything I wanted to do, at my own pace. No one knows how thankful I am for these days where I am able to feel completely like myself. ( Note these days are only truly fruitful after a week of working, socializing and spending time with loved ones ).

A day full of planting seedlings, painting, baking, gessoing canvases & spending time in the sun.
